Hi there, and welcome to The Idea Garden!
As you’ll discover, I’m by no means an expert gardener. I’m interested in lots of things really – business, technology, music, films… but I also love nature and the outdoors. I often feel my happiest and most relaxed when out on a walk with my family. You could say I’m a normal guy, with a busy life (work, family, friends) but when I can find the time, I just love getting out in the garden. That could mean messing about on the trampoline with the kids, growing our own organic fruit and veg, getting creative and designing a new space to relax or even just mulling over those common gardening conundrums…
We have a nice garden – not too big, not too small – but it’s not without its problems. The decking is a hot-plate all summer and becomes an ice rink in the winter! The decorative gravel has become a litter tray for the cat and I can’t seem to attract anything but pigeons to the bird feeder. Last year the slugs ate my sunflowers again and just the other day I found my 5 year old digging up the lawn looking for treasure!
So, make no mistake, our little garden is far from perfect – but then where would the fun be if it was?! I love how different spaces can be reinvented month after month, year after year, through the different seasons. I believe that with some ideas and a little inspiration, your garden can become whatever you imagine it to be.
A Place to Escape
Life is busy. As more and more of our time is consumed by work, chores, and the constant barrage of technology and media, it can be hard to find time to relax. And when we do find some valuable spare time, there’s a pressure to do something with it – to go somewhere, see something, meet someone, buy something, eat something, watch something….
However, many of us have the perfect antidote to this busy modern ‘condition’ and it’s right on our doorsteps (although we don’t always realise it). If you’re lucky enough to have access to a garden – or any private outdoor space for that matter – then you have an opportunity…
Your garden can be…
- a sanctuary; a place to unwind, to escape the hustle and to restore some balance in our lives.
- a personal and inspiring place, designed around your inner-most ideas and needs.
- a source of good health, that boosts your energy and your creativity.
- a comfort, somewhere you can enjoy alone or share with others.
- a revelation, where you can explore and connect with nature.
I really wanted to create an online space where anyone can come for inspiration – ideas to help unlock the potential in any outdoor space. Your garden should be so much more than just where you go to hang out the washing or mow the lawn once a month. Whether you have a big garden, a small garden or even just a yard or balcony area. Your garden is an extension of your home, an extension of you, and somewhere to escape, have fun and relax!
- To Inspire you to be creative
- To Make gardening fun & easy
- To Help you discover peace and enjoyment
